The Nova Scotia Road Builders Association make a large donation to the Women and Children’s Health Unit

In May, we were overwhelmed with gratitude by the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association when a few members dropped in with a truly generous donation. The gift, designated to the Women and Children’s Health Unit, has helped fund new Fetal Health Monitors. Their incredibly generous contribution of over $127,000.00 has filled our hearts with profound appreciation. Thanks to their kindness, this helps ensure the utmost care for every laboring mother and baby that use our Hospital. We are deeply touched by their support, which will undoubtedly make a significant difference in the lives of countless families, and for our dedicated nursing staff on the unit.

“Each year at the NSRBA AGM we hold a charity event that includes a silent and live auction of items donated by our membership. I had the honor of being President of NSRBA in 2023 and therefore had the privilege of choosing where the funds from our annual auction would be donated. I wanted to choose something that would benefit the greater community of Colchester/East Hants as most of our employees at Basin Contracting reside in the Colchester/East Hants area. I also live in the area with my family. CEHHCF felt like the right choice as my family and co-workers have benefited from the services provided at this hospital”, Jeff Sullivan, Past President of the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association, shared.

The Colchester East Hants Health Centre’s (CEHHC) Women and Children’s Health Team delivers over 500 babies per year. The replacement of their fetal monitoring system ($35,892.50/unit) is the team’s top priority to ensure they are delivering the best care possible for their babies. Up until this donation, the monitors being used were over twelve years old and had reached the end of their service life. With the generous donation from the Nova Scotia Road Builders, new monitors have been funded.

“We are overwhelmed and so very appreciative of this donation. We strive daily to provide the best, safest care to our expectant families. With not one, but four new fetal heart monitors, we can now meet the needs, wishes and expectations of all our patients with the latest technology. Our laboring patients will now be able to be up and mobilize while we monitor their baby’s wellbeing in labor”, said Tanya LeBlanc-Earle, Manager of the Women and Children’s Health Unit.

Thanks to the following members of the Nova Scotia Road Builders Association who stopped by the Foundation to make the donation; Annett Glenn (Toromont Cat), Debra Slaunwhite (NSRBA) , Mark Underhill ( President), Grant Feltmate (Executive Director NSRBA), and Jeff Sullivan (Past President). Also pictured is Tanya Earle-Leblanc, Manager CEHHC Women and Children’s Health Unit. The members toured the Unit, and saw one of the Monitors that they will be funding and learned about how it is used.

Thank you NSRBA! If you would like to make a difference in our community, make a donation today!
