"For a place you never want to visit, it has been wonderful"

“For a place you never want to visit, it has been wonderful.”

Robert George is a familiar face in our Oncology Department. For over two years, he’s walked through our doors for life-saving cancer treatments — more than 50 rounds of chemotherapy so far. And every single time, by his side, has been his wife, Theresa.

When Robert first felt something was off in 2021, he didn’t ignore it. He saw his doctor, had scans and tests, and caught his pancreatic cancer in its early stages — something that gave him a fighting chance.

“There’s no book on how this works,” Robert says. “When I was diagnosed, we didn’t know what to expect — what it would mean for our family, our future. But I made up my mind: I wasn’t taking chemo to just exist in a bubble. I was taking it so I could live my life — with Theresa, our daughters, and our grandchildren.”

The journey has not been easy. But for Robert and Theresa, it’s been made bearable — even beautiful — because of the people who care for them.

“We had no idea what it would be like at first,” Theresa says. “But the nurses here… we’ve built such special bonds. We actually look forward to seeing them at each appointment — we call them our ‘chemo girls.’ We’ve never felt so cared for, or so welcome, in a place nobody wants to have to come to.”

This is what your donation does. It gives patients like Robert not just treatments, but hope. Not just hospital visits, but human connection. Not just care, but comfort for families who are facing the fight of their lives.
